Chatuchak Weekend Market

The world's largest outdoor weekend market with over 15,000 stalls selling everything from vintage clothing to live plants.

District: Chatuchak

Chatuchak Weekend Market (JJ Market to locals) is a Bangkok institution and one of the world’s largest outdoor markets, covering 35 acres with more than 15,000 stalls organised into 27 numbered sections. It’s open Saturday and Sunday from roughly 9:00 to 18:00, with some sections starting earlier. A smaller Friday evening market runs from 18:00 to midnight. The nearest stations are BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak Park — use the MRT exit for the most direct access to the market’s north entrance.

The market sells virtually everything: vintage and new clothing, handmade ceramics, home décor, antiques, artwork, plants, pets, leather goods, and Thai handicrafts. Sections 2–4 are best for clothing, sections 7–9 for antiques and collectibles, and sections 17–19 for home furnishings. The outer ring has a strong concentration of food stalls — coconut ice cream, grilled seafood, and fresh fruit shakes are market staples. Prices are already reasonable, but polite bargaining (especially when buying multiple items) is normal and expected.

Come early — by noon the heat is intense and the crowds make narrow sois nearly impassable. Wear comfortable shoes and bring cash (most vendors don’t take cards). Grab a free map from the information booth near the clock tower to orient yourself, or just embrace the maze and wander. If you overheat, duck into one of the air-conditioned café clusters in sections 7 and 26. For a quieter alternative, the adjacent Chatuchak Green zone and Mixt Chatuchak mall have air-conditioned shopping with some of the same vendors.
