Chatuchak District

Chatuchak covers 32.908 square kilometres and had 156,684 registered residents in 2017. Its five khwaeng are Lat Yao, Sena Nikhom, Chan Kasem, Chomphon and Chatuchak. The district became separate from Bang Khen in 1989 and took its name from Chatuchak Park and Chatuchak Weekend Market.

More than the market

Chatuchak khwaeng contains the weekend market, transport interchange and the southern end of a major green corridor. Queen Sirikit Park and Wachirabenchathat Park continue north into Lat Yao, creating different entrances and activity areas rather than one small park.

Chomphon covers much of the Lat Phrao junction side, including Central Ladprao. Chan Kasem and Sena Nikhom are more residential and institutional. Lat Yao, the largest khwaeng at 10.690 square kilometres, contains Kasetsart University’s Bangkhen campus, government agencies and Vibhavadi Hospital.

This geography matters because “Chatuchak” can mean the formal district, the market, the park or the MRT station. Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and Bang Sue Grand Station are in neighbouring Bang Sue, despite often being grouped into the same north-Bangkok transport zone.

Choosing the right rail node

For the market, Kamphaeng Phet MRT is usually the most direct entrance. Mo Chit BTS and Chatuchak Park MRT serve the park side. Phahon Yothin MRT and Ha Yaek Lat Phrao BTS serve the mall and interchange, while stations from Ratchayothin through Kasetsart University serve the long northern corridor.

Chatuchak suits market visitors, students, office workers and residents who value parks and north-Bangkok rail. For accommodation, choose the station that matches the trip: a market-edge stay, a Lat Phrao mall address and a Kasetsart-area home are not interchangeable.
