Bangkok Weather and Best Time to Visit

Bangkok is hot all year. The easiest time to visit is usually the cooler, drier period from November to February.

March to May is the hottest stretch. The rainy season usually runs from around May or June to October, with heavy showers rather than all-day rain every day.

Cool season

The cool season is the most comfortable time for walking, temples, markets, parks, and outdoor sightseeing.

It is still warm by many visitors’ standards. Bring light clothes, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes.

This is also a popular travel period, so hotels and flights can cost more.

Hot season

March, April, and May can feel very hot, especially in the middle of the day. Plan outdoor sights early and keep afternoons flexible.

Air-conditioned malls, cafes, museums, hotel pools, and massage shops become practical tools, not just treats.

Songkran in April is a major event, but it also changes traffic, opening hours, and street conditions.

Rainy season

Rainy season does not mean constant rain. Many days are still usable, but storms can be heavy when they arrive.

Carry a small umbrella, use shoes that can handle wet pavements, and avoid tight plans during late afternoon storms.

Taxis can be harder to get when rain starts. BTS and MRT are useful when roads slow down.

Air quality

Air quality can be a problem in Bangkok, especially during parts of the dry season. Sensitive travellers should check daily conditions and plan indoor breaks when needed.

If you live in Bangkok, an air purifier at home can make a real difference.

What to pack

Pack light, breathable clothes. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle.

For temples, carry something that covers shoulders and knees. For rainy season, add a compact umbrella or light rain jacket.

My Bangkok advice

Do not fight the weather. Build your day around it.

Go outside early, rest indoors when the heat or rain peaks, and return to markets, rooftops, or riverside areas in the evening.
