Sala Rattanakosin Bangkok
A stylish boutique hotel overlooking Wat Arun with a famous rooftop bar and restaurant, ideally placed for exploring Rattanakosin's temples.
Sala Rattanakosin is a small boutique hotel — just 17 rooms — perched on Maharat Road in Rattanakosin, directly facing Wat Arun across the river. The rooftop restaurant and bar commands one of the most photographed views in Bangkok: the illuminated towers of Wat Arun reflected in the Chao Phraya at sunset.
The hotel is tiny by Bangkok standards, which works in its favour: service is attentive and personal, and the atmosphere is intimate rather than institutional. Rooms are compact but smartly designed with floor-to-ceiling windows, contemporary Thai décor, and modern bathrooms. The Wat Arun View rooms are the stars — watching the temple light up at dusk from your own balcony is genuinely special.
The rooftop bar and restaurant is the hotel’s public-facing draw, attracting non-guests throughout the evening for the view and competent Thai-international menu. It’s small, so reservations are wise at sunset. The ground-floor restaurant handles breakfast and casual dining. There’s no pool or spa, so this is a location-and-atmosphere hotel, not a resort-style retreat.
You couldn’t be better placed for old Bangkok sightseeing. Wat Pho is literally around the corner, and the Grand Palace is a 5-minute walk. The Tha Tien pier connects you to the cross-river ferry to Wat Arun for 5 baht. Pak Khlong Talat flower market is a 10-minute walk south. The nearest MRT station is Sanam Chai, about a 10-minute walk.
Room rates start from around 3,500–6,000 THB per night. The premium is entirely about the Wat Arun view and the location — for temple-focused trips, there’s no better address in Bangkok.
