Accommodation
Riva Surya Bangkok
A charming boutique hotel on the Chao Phraya River in the old city, with a riverside pool, rooftop bar, and walking access to major temples.
Riva Surya occupies a prime Chao Phraya riverside position on Phra Arthit Road in Banglamphu, the historic heart of Phra Nakhon district. It’s a boutique property — just 68 rooms — that combines contemporary Thai design with the charm of the old city. The hotel has its own river pier and sits beside the Phra Arthit express boat stop.
The riverside swimming pool is genuinely delightful: a compact, well-maintained pool set right on the river with views of long-tail boats, express ferries, and the Thonburi bank opposite. The rooftop bar adds another dimension, serving cocktails with panoramic river and old-city rooftop views. Both spaces are far more atmospheric than the pools at larger chain hotels.
Rooms are contemporary-Thai in style, with warm wood tones, local artwork, and river or city views depending on the category. The Deluxe River View rooms are worth the upgrade for the balcony and direct river sightlines. babett, the ground-floor restaurant, serves decent Thai and international fare and benefits from the riverside setting especially at dinner.
The location is perfect for cultural sightseeing. The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are about a 15-minute walk south along the river. Wat Arun is visible across the river and reachable by a 5-baht ferry. Khao San Road is a 10-minute walk east. The trade-off is no BTS or MRT access — you’ll rely on boats, taxis, and walking.
Room rates start from approximately 3,000–5,000 THB per night. Riva Surya is ideal for first-time visitors focused on temples and old Bangkok, or for anyone wanting a riverside experience without the price tag of the Mandarin Oriental or Shangri-La.
