Villa Market

Bangkok's favourite expat supermarket chain stocking a wide range of imported foods, wines, cheeses, and specialty ingredients across multiple locations.

Villa Market has been Bangkok’s go-to source for imported groceries since 1973, catering primarily to the city’s large expat community and food-conscious locals. With locations across key residential areas — Phrom Phong, Thonglor, Ari, Silom, and several spots along Sukhumvit — it’s rarely far from wherever expats live and work.

The stores stock a noticeably wider range of Western, Japanese, and specialty products than mainstream Thai supermarkets like Tops Market. You’ll find imported cheeses, artisan breads, cold cuts, European dairy, organic produce, craft beers, and a strong wine selection at every branch. The fresh meat and seafood sections carry items like Australian grass-fed beef, Norwegian salmon, and New Zealand lamb that are harder to source elsewhere.

Prices are higher than Thai supermarkets across the board — expect to pay a significant premium for imported items. But for many expats, the convenience and selection justify the cost, especially for ingredients that are difficult or impossible to find at 7-Eleven or even the premium Gourmet Market chains. The ready-made meal sections at larger branches are also popular for quick weeknight dinners.

Villa Market is independently owned (not part of Central Group or any other major conglomerate), which gives it more flexibility in sourcing niche and boutique products. The Phrom Phong branch (in EmQuartier/The Emporium area) and the Thonglor branch on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 are the largest and most comprehensive. The Ari branch serves the trendy Ari neighbourhood’s growing expat and foodie community.

If Villa Market is beyond your grocery budget, Tops Market offers a reasonable middle ground, and Big C or Lotus’s hypermarkets are the most affordable options for bulk shopping.
