Bang Sue District

Bang Sue covers 11.545 km² between the Chao Phraya and the Khlong Prapa side of north-central Bangkok. Its two khwaeng are Bang Sue (5.762 km²) in the south and Wong Sawang (5.783 km²) in the north. The near-even split hides different transport patterns: Tao Poon and Bang Pho orient the southern side, while Bang Son and Wong Sawang are more useful farther north. The district had 125,440 residents in 2017, a dated administrative count rather than a current estimate.

Bang Sue was one of Bangkok’s outer districts during the late nineteenth century, became part of Dusit in the 1938 reorganisation, and returned as a separate khet in 1989. The district still mixes older riverside communities, markets, homes and workshops with rail infrastructure and redevelopment. Bang Pho, on the Chao Phraya, has a history distinct from the large modern rail sites farther east.

Krung Thep Aphiwat and Bang Sue MRT

Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal is formally in Chatuchak district, immediately beside Bang Sue. The terminal retained “Bang Sue” in its earlier name, so bookings and directions can use Bang Sue for places on both sides of the administrative boundary. Use the exact train operator, service and terminal entrance. “Bang Sue” may mean this district, Bang Sue MRT, older station naming or the wider rail complex.

Allow time to move between the MRT and the correct national-rail platform. A transfer that looks adjacent on a map may involve a substantial indoor walk and security or ticket checks.

Tao Poon and local stations

Tao Poon MRT is the interchange between the Blue and Purple lines. Bang Pho and Wong Sawang serve other parts of the district, while Bang Son MRT supports Purple Line and local rail connections.

Staying and daily life

Bang Sue is practical for north-Bangkok work, a home near a confirmed MRT station or an early national-rail departure from the neighbouring terminal. Garlic and Pae Brass Pot Porridge 38 Years are two local restaurant guides already linked to the district, but everyday convenience depends on the exact road and station. Terminal proximity and easy access to old town, Sukhumvit or the visitor-facing river are different questions.

Plan by named transport point

Always use the full station or terminal name in route apps and bookings. “Bang Sue station” without an operator or line is too ambiguous for a time-sensitive journey.
