Phasi Charoen District

Phasi Charoen is crossed by the Phetkasem road and rail corridor, alongside neighbourhoods shaped by Khlong Phasi Charoen. The district covers 17.834 km² and is divided into seven khwaeng: Bang Wa, Bang Duan, Bang Chak, Bang Waek, Khlong Khwang, Pak Khlong Phasi Charoen, and Khuha Sawan. The canal-side Khlong Bang Luang Artist House and floating market are in Khuha Sawan, away from the Phetkasem station strip; use that place as the last-leg destination rather than navigating to the district or canal name alone.

The canal gives the district its name. Work began in 1866 and finished in 1872, linking the Tha Chin River with Khlong Bangkok Yai. Although the project was initially proposed as a toll canal, it was completed with government funding and passage was toll-free. Waterways supported orchards and local movement; roads and rail now carry much of the daily traffic. Phasi Charoen had 126,824 residents in 2017, the latest dated population figure cited in the district source. The district was established in 1899 and became a khet in 1972 when Bangkok’s administrative system changed.

Its most useful connection is Bang Wa, where the BTS Silom Line meets the MRT Blue Line.

Bang Wa and Phetkasem

Bang Wa connects the BTS Silom Line toward Sathorn and Silom with the MRT Blue Line toward Tha Phra and central Bangkok. Other Blue Line stops—Phetkasem 48 MRT, Phasi Charoen MRT, and Bang Phai MRT—serve separate sections of Phetkasem Road. Phasi Charoen station is useful for Seacon Bangkae, a major shopping destination in neighbouring Phasi Charoen; The Mall Lifestore Bangkae is farther west in Bang Khae near Lak Song.

Away from Phetkasem, homes, schools, and local services may depend on buses, taxis, motorcycles, narrow roads, or canal crossings. Phyathai 3 Hospital is in Pak Khlong Phasi Charoen, one of the district’s Phetkasem-side healthcare anchors. For residents comparing a commute, or visitors going to the Artist House or a canal-side market, choose the station by the exact address and entrance; the district name alone does not tell you whether the last leg is convenient.
