Min Buri District

Min Buri covers 63.645 square kilometres in outer eastern Bangkok. Its two khwaeng are Min Buri and Saen Saep, and the district had 141,750 registered residents in 2017. The built-up centre around Sihaburanukit Road feels very different from the lower-density canal and residential areas farther out.

The two khwaeng are not equal in character or size. Min Buri covers about 28.5 square kilometres and contains the established civic and market centre. Saen Saep covers about 35.2 square kilometres across the south and east, where a district address is more likely to require a substantial road connection.

A former provincial centre

Min Buri was established as a province in 1901. Its name means “city of fish” and was paired with nearby Thanyaburi, the “city of rice.” The province was dissolved in the early 1930s, but the market, district offices and public services still give Min Buri the role of a regional centre. The present boundary also reflects later change: part of Saen Saep arrived from Lat Krabang in 1957, while Khlong Sam Wa became a separate district in 1997.

The working commercial core includes Min Buri Market and transport stands serving communities beyond the rail network. Khwan Riam Floating Market sits beside Khlong Saen Saep and operates as a planned weekend destination rather than an everyday district centre. Muslim and Buddhist institutions are both important to local life.

Keep the two markets separate when planning. Min Buri Market is an everyday shopping and transport hub beside the Pink Line. Khwan Riam is farther south on Ramkhamhaeng and uses a different entrance and operating pattern.

Pink Line and last-mile travel

Min Buri Market MRT serves the older commercial centre. Min Buri MRT is the eastern terminal, while Setthabutbamphen MRT serves the western side. The line makes east-west travel easier, but central Bangkok still requires a transfer and many addresses need a bus, taxi or motorcycle connection.

Choose Min Buri for a named school, hospital, market or eastern-Bangkok routine. For healthcare, Navamin 9 Hospital is on Sihaburanukit Road. Check the exact khwaeng and road before travelling because the district extends well beyond its three stations.
