Bang Na District

Bang Na covers 18.789 square kilometres at Bangkok’s southeastern edge and had 90,852 registered residents in 2017. The district was separated from Phra Khanong in March 1998. Its two present khwaeng, Bang Na Nuea and Bang Na Tai, were created in 2017; Bang Na Tai is the larger section at 13.628 square kilometres.

The name means “a place of rice fields,” recalling the area’s earlier agricultural landscape. Today Sukhumvit, Debaratna, Srinagarindra and La Salle connect exhibition halls, malls, hospitals, schools, housing, offices and warehouses. “Bang Na” is also used for a much wider eastern zone, including places across the Samut Prakan boundary.

BITEC and the two rail edges

BITEC is the district’s clearest visitor destination. Bang Na BTS connects to its Welcome Hall by a covered skywalk from Exit 1. Check the event hall and entrance because the exhibition complex is large.

Udom Suk, Bang Na and Bearing BTS serve the Sukhumvit side. The Yellow Line’s Si Iam, Si La Salle and Si Bearing stations serve the Srinagarindra side. Destinations between those corridors usually require a bus, taxi, motorcycle, shuttle or private vehicle. Central Bangna and Thainakarin Hospital are on Debaratna Road away from the BTS tracks.

District boundaries that change the trip

Mega Bangna is commonly marketed as Bang Na but is in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan. The wider Bearing area also crosses the city boundary. Bangkok Patana School is inside Bang Na on La Salle Road, while other schools and workplaces using “Bang Na” may be much farther east.

Bang Na can work well for BITEC visitors and people with work, school or family routines along outer Sukhumvit and Debaratna. It is closer to Suvarnabhumi than central Bangkok but has no direct Airport Rail Link station. Compare the exact road route, school or office shuttle, rain-time access and final station connection before choosing a home or hotel.
