Thon Buri District

Thon Buri district occupies a relatively small part of Bangkok’s west bank. Its name causes confusion because “Thonburi” is also used for the former capital and, informally, for much of Bangkok west of the Chao Phraya. Check whether a source means the formal district or the wider side of the city.

Wongwian Yai and Talat Phlu

Wongwian Yai is a transport and commercial centre shared with adjoining Khlong San. Wongwian Yai BTS is on the Silom Line, while the separate State Railway station requires a local transfer.

Talat Phlu BTS serves the Ratchaphruek side of the market area. The old market and food streets are not all directly beneath the station, so plan the walk or short onward ride.

Other BTS stations

Pho Nimit BTS and Wutthakat BTS serve residential parts of the district. They provide a direct route toward Sathorn and Silom but do not turn every canal-side address into an easy walk.

Character and daily life

The district combines busy roads, older communities, temples, canals, schools, markets, and newer condominiums near rail. It suits residents who want west-bank life with a direct BTS route and visitors planning a focused food or local-neighbourhood stop.

Choosing a base

Use the exact station and road when comparing accommodation. A listing described only as “Thonburi” may be in another west-bank district and could have a completely different journey into central Bangkok.
