Thawi Watthana District

Thawi Watthana covers 50.219 square kilometres at Bangkok’s western edge and had 78,187 registered residents in 2017. Its two khwaeng are Thawi Watthana, covering 21.521 square kilometres, and the larger Sala Thammasop, covering 28.698. The district borders Nakhon Pathom to the west and south, so an address near Salaya may be outside Bangkok even when it belongs to the same practical corridor.

A district built around canals and roads

The district takes its name from Khlong Thawi Watthana, which crosses the area from northwest to southeast. It was formerly part of Taling Chan and became a separate district in March 1998. Canals, plant nurseries, housing estates, educational institutions and remaining open land produce a lower-density landscape than most inner districts.

Utthayan Road is the most distinctive civic axis, while Borommaratchachonnani, Kanchanaphisek and Phutthamonthon Sai 2–4 carry most longer journeys. Thonburi Market Place is a large fresh-food and dining destination on Borommaratchachonnani Road. House of Museums preserves everyday shop and household objects in Sala Thammasop.

Institutions and daily services

Bangkokthonburi University sits on Liap Khlong Thawi Watthana Road. Thonburi Thawiwatthana Hospital serves the Borommaratchachonnani corridor. These are useful anchors, but neither makes the surrounding district walkable; large plots and canal crossings can create long approaches between nearby-looking pins.

There is no BTS or MRT station inside Thawi Watthana in the current WhyBangkok transport network. Buses serve main roads, while taxis and private vehicles are often the most practical way to reach a specific market, campus, hospital or home. For central Bangkok, allow for a road leg before rail becomes useful.

Thawi Watthana suits people whose work, school or family routines are already in west Bangkok or Salaya. Visitors should plan around one named destination, save its exact entrance and confirm the return trip; the district has no compact centre that ties its scattered places together on foot.
