Taling Chan District

Taling Chan covers 29.479 square kilometres on the northwest side of Thonburi. Its six khwaeng are Khlong Chak Phra, Taling Chan, Chimphli, Bang Phrom, Bang Ramat and Bang Chueak Nang. The district had 105,299 registered residents in 2017.

Khlong Chak Phra forms the narrow eastern side beside the canal, with Taling Chan khwaeng immediately west around the district’s administrative centre. Chimphli stretches across much of the north and west. Bang Ramat, Bang Phrom and Bang Chueak Nang cover the lower canal-and-residential side. These names are practical route clues because a venue promoted as “Taling Chan” may sit well away from Taling Chan Floating Market.

Canals, orchards and changing boundaries

Taling Chan was historically administered on the Thonburi side of the city. Its boundaries changed several times, most recently when western territory became Thawi Watthana district in 1998. Canals supported orchards, kitchen gardens and water-based travel long before today’s major roads, and that lower-rise landscape remains visible in several khwaeng.

Taling Chan Floating Market operates beside Khlong Chak Phra in front of the district office on weekends and public holidays. It is a compact food and canal outing, not a permanent daily attraction. Food Villa Ratchaphruek is a road-oriented market and dining centre in Bang Ramat.

The district’s destination restaurants also reward precise planning. Huen Lamphun, Mae Khlong Hua Pla Mo Fai, Phed Phed Bistro and SANN are reasons to cross Bangkok for a specific meal rather than for general street browsing.

Getting there and back

Taling Chan has no BTS or MRT station in the current WhyBangkok transport network. Mainline and suburban rail, buses and market shuttles can help for selected journeys, while a taxi or private vehicle is often simplest for an exact restaurant or home. Canals and railway lines make some short-looking local trips indirect.

Confirm market days, boat availability and the return route before travelling. The district suits a half-day food or canal plan and residents with west-Bangkok routines; it is less convenient as a first-visit base for central attractions and nightlife.

Keep market and restaurant trips separate unless their pins line up along the same road. The floating market is on the Khlong Chak Phra side, Food Villa is in Bang Ramat, and the district’s restaurants spread across several khwaeng. Ratchaphruek, Borommaratchachonnani and the local canal crossings can produce very different approaches, so saving the exact entrance and arranging the trip home is more reliable than navigating by district name.
