Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok

A grand riverside resort with two distinctive wings, lush tropical gardens, and panoramic Chao Phraya views near BTS Saphan Taksin.

Category: hotel

District: Bang Rak district in Bangkok

Area: Sathorn

The Shangri-La Bangkok sits on the Chao Phraya River in Bang Rak district, set within some of the most extensive tropical gardens of any Bangkok hotel. Its location is hard to beat: the BTS Skytrain at Saphan Taksin is just a short walk away, and the hotel’s private pier provides boat access to the river express and tourist boats.

The hotel operates as two distinct wings: the Shangri-La Wing (the main building) and the Krungthep Wing, a more boutique-style property with its own lobby and pool. Families often prefer the Shangri-La Wing for its larger rooms and direct garden access, while couples gravitate toward the Krungthep Wing’s quieter atmosphere and more refined dining at NEXT2 Café.

The riverside pool area is expansive, with loungers shaded by tropical trees and attentive poolside service. CHI The Spa offers both Thai and international treatments. The hotel runs an excellent weekend brunch that draws local expats as well as guests — it’s one of the better hotel brunches in the city.

Dining covers multiple options: Salathip serves Thai cuisine in a traditional open-air pavilion on the river, Shang Palace handles Chinese fine dining, and Volti is a solid Italian option. The lobby lounge is a pleasant spot for afternoon tea overlooking the gardens.

Room rates start from around 5,000–8,000 THB per night and represent solid value for the level of service and the riverside setting. The Shangri-La works particularly well for families and for anyone wanting reliable luxury with excellent transport links.
