Gateway Ekkamai
A Japanese-themed community mall at BTS Ekkamai with Japanese restaurants, a cinema, and the Eastern Bus Terminal for trips to Pattaya and beyond.
Gateway Ekkamai is a mid-sized community mall connected to BTS Ekkamai station in Watthana district. It has a distinctive Japanese theme — the architecture references Japanese urban design, and a significant portion of the restaurants serve Japanese cuisine, reflecting the large Japanese expat community in the Sukhumvit area.
The ground floor houses a cluster of Japanese restaurants (ramen, yakiniku, curry, sushi) and a Japanese-style bakery. Above, the mall has a cinema (Major Cineplex), a bowling alley, fitness centre, and assorted retail shops. It’s not a destination for serious shopping, but it’s a convenient neighbourhood mall for dining and entertainment in the Ekkamai area.
What makes Gateway Ekkamai notable for visitors is its proximity to the Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai Bus Terminal), located directly behind the BTS station. This is the departure point for buses to Pattaya, Rayong, Trat (for Koh Chang), and other eastern Thai destinations. Many travellers stop at Gateway for a meal before or after their bus journey.
The surrounding Ekkamai neighbourhood has developed rapidly, with trendy cafés, craft cocktail bars, and creative restaurants lining the soi. BTS Ekkamai connects easily to Thonglor one stop north and Phrom Phong two stops further. On Nut is two stops south for budget dining and local market experiences.
Open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Gateway Ekkamai works as a lunch or dinner spot in the Japanese community mall vein, combined with practical travel connections to eastern Thailand.
